Updated by

The Updated by field shows who — or what — last touched a record.

The Updated by field shows who — or what — last touched a record. Add it to any project to track accountability and spot changes coming from automations, integrations, or specific teammates.

Use cases

  • Accountability — see at a glance who made the most recent change to any record.
  • Audit automation activity — group by Updated by to find records last nudged by an automation, formula, or repeat schedule overnight.
  • Spot API and form traffic — surface records last touched by a form submission, an API key, or an external integration.
  • Filter by editor — show me everything I changed today, or everything edited by a specific teammate this week.

Behavior

Updated by is system-managed. Blue stamps the value automatically on every change to the record — title, description, custom field value, status, comments, attachments, checklist items, tags, and so on. There is no manual editing.

The value can be any of:

  • A teammate — the user who made the change.
  • An automation — when the change came from an automation action.
  • A public form — when the record was created or updated by a form submission.
  • An API key — when the change came from the public API.
  • A Blue system process — for changes made by formulas, repeats, lookups recalculating, and other internal updates.
Pairs with Updated at

Updated by tells you who touched the record. Updated at tells you when. Use them together to answer questions like “who has touched this in the last 24 hours?”
